This is meant to be an interactive blog based on a comment and response system.

We are encouraging you all to pray whenever you read a need of someone, so please respond here with a prayer. You need not be a team member to leave a prayer for someone or bring a prayer need here. We all can lift up a prayer for each person and encourage someone, help to carry another's burden, stand with them and bless them.

URGENT!!!

SUSANA (parents Cody and Maria) desperately need encouragement PLEASE SEE THE POST URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS

SPECIFIC REQUESTS FOR JOANNE HEIM #1 above (from Toben, her husband)
Prayer requests:
1. That in God's time Joanne would wake up. It will be impossible to tell the extent of her brain damage until she comes to. I can't tell you how I desire to look into her brown eyes again!
2. Audrey and Emma will be returning to Denver Christian school on Wednesday after having spent the last year and a half in home school.  They are understandably nervous but I have the utmost confidence that they will be received lovingly.  I can't think of a better environment for them.
3. Audrey and Emma are going to have to process through all of this.  At this point they aren’t asking many questions or wanting to talk much at all about what is going on.  They know mom's brain is hurt, that she is asleep, and that she won't get better for a long, long time.  My prayer is that when they are ready to talk about it that they will feel safe and supported.

I know many of you are keeping up with and praying for JOANNE and Toben, and their 2 girls. Here are today's specific prayer requests, but you can check out more information on The Simple Wife and also on Twitter:

Prayer requests:

1. Audrey is really struggling. Between what's going on with Joanne, starting back at school, and being a 12 year old girl, she is in a pretty tough space. Simple prayer for her is that she would eat and sleep well so that she has the energy to deal with all the emotions she is wrestling with.

2. This is a selfish prayer but if/when Joanne opens her eyes for the first time in almost 10 days I want to be there for it. Obviously we will be thrilled whenever she opens her eyes, but if I could be there to see her come back that would be deeply meaningful.

3. Please pray that Joanne won't get any other sort of infection. Between the breathing tube and the meds that she is ont here is some risk of pneumonia.

Toben did not add this above but he wrote this in one of the recent blog posts:

"On another note, I would appreciate prayer on something: I need to stay in the moment. So often my mind races ahead, I want to know now what the future holds for Joanne. I want to know if she is going to open her eyes.  I want to know if she will be able to recognize me. I want to know if she will understand me or be able to talk. I want to know if she will...fill in the blank. But you know what? I need to take it a day at a time.  I need to take what God has planned for today knowing that he will provide the strength that I need for today. So, please pray that my mind will be guarded from getting ahead of itself." ~ Toben

Susana’s tumors are back…and worse than before

January 20, 2011

Our hearts ache without limit right now.  Words fail me.  Her tumors are back.  It’s very very bad.  She has them everywhere, including one on her brain.  We’re losing our little girl.  Without any further treatment, she has about a few months to live.  Her body will soon begin deteriorating and will cause a lot of pain.  The treatment options that we are presented with are few and are experimental all throughout.

Our conversation with the oncologist today had phrases like “quality of life” and “pain medication” interspersed throughout.  This is really happening.  I cannot even think straight.

Yet at the same time, the grace of God is mysteriously with us.  We have wept like crazy, but at the same time know that we can let her go be with Jesus.  He is the prize for which we chase hard after every day…and it seems like Susana will be the one who gets there first.  This will only make our longing for the Kingdom to come all the more.

Please pray for us as we have some important decisions that need to be made very soon.  This is the hardest thing that we have ever been faced with.  We need the Lord’s peace, comfort, strength, grace, and wisdom.  He is still who we cling to.  He is still who we love.  I don’t understand why, but I know that He is good and that He has reason for everything He does.  I also know that death is not the victor to those who hope in Christ.  It is just the beginning, the entry point into eternal glory.  And it seems like the Lord is calling Susana through that entry point.  We will rejoice with her, and we will weep.  That’s the way it will be.  Right now though, I’m just weeping.
