Father, I come here today to thank you for all the prayers that have been answered here at The Lighthouse. Thank you for your loving kindness to all who needed You, for your faithfulness to all who needed You, for peace to all who needed You. As the song says, You've answered a million prays or more, but today I just come to thank you." You have blessed me by letting me put prayers here for some of these people and for that I "thank You". Tomorrow there may be more who need your help and our prayers, but today I just say "Thank you Lord for all you have done," not only in others who came for help but for my own family, I thank you.

I ask that you continue to bless them and use them to lead others to the cross that they might find and receive salvation for their souls.

She is in your hands God for you created her and you have a plan for her. I pray that she will be able to carry out that plan in the name of Jesus.

The Search for my Center:
Four Days Before Cancer Surgery

It's now 8:15 Monday morning August 8, 2011. Last evening 20 or so friends gathered to pray. It was Sunday, but Friday's coming, the day of my surgery. Dr. Neff, my surgeon, expects good results - liver malignancy, local lymph node involvement, plus a stone-loaded gall bladder he'll remove while he's in the vicinity. Prognosis is positive, guarantees are unavailable.
Literally thousands are praying. If you're reading this, you are likely among them. In His darkest night, our Lord prayed alone. All His friends had deserted Him. Mine have gathered around me and my wife. As always, my suffering in not worthy to be compared with His.
Dozens of concerned friends have raised the "how're you doing" question to a level of genuine sincerity. Until a couple of days ago, my best answer was trite. For whatever reason, a heavy travel schedule right up to a week before surgery included, I hadn't searched for my center. I had little awareness of what was going on in my heart, mind, and soul.
That realization startled me. I'm known, justifiably so, as someone who looks inside, who explores his inner depths. But I had deflected serious questions with light humor, telling people my surgeon was throwing in a tummy tuck and face lift for free. Why? Was I living in denial? Had fear conquered me? Was I afraid I'd find too little of God to sustain me? Tough questions began my search.
On Sunday, August 7, I woke up at 5, got up right away, and was sipping on extra hot latte by 6 at a nearby coffee shop with a pad of paper in front of me, a Bible next to it on the table, and a pen in my hand. Two hours later I had scribbled 8 pages that chronicled my search to discover what was going on in me as I faced cancer surgery.
What I wrote early Sunday morning I read Sunday evening to my friends as they prepared to pray for Rachael and me. She preceded me in a wonderful display of faith-grounded authenticity. With tears she shared that her "Psalm 119: 164 commitment" to praise God 7 times a day (read the psalm) was running into trouble. That morning we had together listened to a sermon on heaven. Five days earlier at a conference in England, we heard a plenary address on heaven. Was God preparing her? Was He telling her I'd soon be there? Rachael was troubled. And yet she embraced her fear because she saw it as soil in which soul-anchoring trust could grow.
Then it was my turn. To wonderful friends, I read my unedited effort to search for my center, to put into words a real answer to the question, "How are you doing?" The following is now a typed, lightly edited version of what I read to my prayer group last night. I want to share it with you, a larger group of praying friends. It's long. But an honest search takes time. Here it is.

It's no coincidence that yesterday's mail brought me a copy of Dr. James Houston's most recent book, in pre-published manuscript form. The title drew me to know that Aslan was moving ahead of me, guiding my search. The title? A Vision for the Ageing Church: Renewing Ministry for and by Seniors. As of July 13 and August 3, Rachael and I (in reverse order) were positioned exactly 3 years away from turning 70. Was God opening our eyes to a new vision?
And yet the more I focus on Sunday's resurrection, the more surprised I am by the joy and the adventure of hope that lies deep in my center, and by the privilege God has given to me to reveal Him in hard times. I'm discovering that is in my center as well. The new covenant feels less like a doctrine to affirm and more like music that calls me to dance.

Fittingly, all that you've just read came out of me early one Sunday morning, on Resurrection Day. No, not Easter as our calendar knows it, but Easter every Sunday as faith knows it. If you're reading this before August 12, pray. Pray for successful surgery but not that God will do good for me. He will. Pray that I'll recognize it.
If you're reading this after August 12, celebrate God's good plan. It did move forward. I know I'll have been led deeper into my center so I can live further up and further in, where I'll dance a bit more rhythmically at the Eternal Party, whether in this world or the next.
I wish I were walking with you right now, discussing our Fridays in light of God's Sunday. For now, email will have to do; until heaven, when email will be hurled into the lake of fire where it belongs, and we'll enjoy, not Facebook, but face-to-face community. Sorry, just had to throw that in.

ReplyDeleteI know that was along request to post but I wanted to share the heart and mind of Dr. Crabb, of course, You already know... and You also have his surgery in Your hands. Be with the Physicians and all medical personnel.
They are calling this a 4 in 1 surgery and we ask that You be in control of all 4 and Larry's body enduring all of this. We continue to surround him and his wife, Rachel and family with Your shield.
The same as Alice's SIL facing surgery.
These are Your children and their lives are in Your hands and they all are in Your care. You are the Great Physician. So many are in need of Your precious healing touch. As You know, our dear sister Denise.
Ohhh Father, I pray that You hear her every cry and rescue Denise from the pain, suffering and this disorder that is taking over. We command this to leave her now in Jesus Name and continue the healing and wholeness of her entire body system. We lay all of this at Your feet and plead for You to pour out miracles where they may be needed and the proper care in every area.
We ask that You not leave a stone unturned and command in Your authority, that this is enough.
May each soul rise up and be healed in Jesus name and by the power of His blood. We know that You are more than enough! You are the Healer of each person as they come to You and admit their need and dependence on You to heal them.
Thank You God for all You are doing. We ask that Your will be done. Restore and give Your strength... we give You all glory and praise and much thanks from grateful hearts as You protect and comfort with Your peace...
Heavenly Father, there are so many who need Your healing touch today, tomorrow and days and years to come. You are faithful and You are never late but always on time. (A song Leo sang with the gospel quartet we traveled with many years ago). I agree with Peggy in prayer for Larry Crabb, Denise and my SIL. Father, You do miracles so great and we ask, if it's Your will, please heal those mentioned and may they be a stronger witness for You than ever before. We know that we are in Your hands and Your control, and we know also You are a loving God, You sent Your only Son to the cross that we might have salvation and healing for our bodies. I submit all these request to you, Father and also ask for healing of my back. Your will be done in the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

ReplyDeleteWell, great news he is out of surgery and the doctors successfully removed his gallbladder, gallstones, a section of the liver and lymph nodes. He will be in the ICU tonight then will remain in the hospital until at least Tuesday.
Please continue to pray for Larry as he begins the recovery process and of course the family as they come along side him. ...

Praise You Father, for the work that You have begun and successfully completed so far, now we commit Dr. Crabb to You for His recovery. We thank You for seeing him and all involved through this procedure. Please attend to him and keep all infection and whatever else that may cause delay or harm away from Him. Father, I thank You that she has returned to You and put her life in Your hands. You have performed miracles in her life before and I know You will be with her this time and she will be a better person because of all she has been through and will be a witness for You.

I came to You today on behalf of many that I know and don't know except through this virtual connection... and I trust You completely for All You are doing in each one's life.
I lift my sister Alice and her back pain to You. Alice has given praise, thanks and testimony to You for all that has been done. So now we come to You and claim the promises of healing and relief of pain for Alice. The nerves and each connection are completely in Your more than capable hands. You created her and You can cause each to be whole and function well in Jesus'Name. You are in control. We believe that Jesus paid the price for victory and bore our infirmities. We believe in You and Your healing power. Your grace and strength are more than enough to cause every nerve and Lumbar part to come together with no further pain. Thank You for Your perfect touch!
We praise You and hope that it was a good decision for her SIL not to have another scan. We will trust this as part of Your perfect plan.
We ask that You continue to do a good work in her before the scheduled surgery on Aug. 31st. We believe that You can do whatever is necessary for her. You have a good plan. We ask that You remove pain and suffering and cause what does a not be long to shrink and be gone. Of course, we ask for Your will to be done. It is not Your will for pain or suffering. You are Our Healer and Our Deliverer. We ask that You would help us to see what You are revealing during this time.
In the same way, we lift and give You our sister Denise. We praise You for being there for her. Thank You for moving in her body. We plead the blood of Jesus to release Denise from the inner battle and deliver her from this struggle and disorder. We ask that You reveal all she needs and help to to get and do whatever she needs. We trust that she is in Your care and Denise depend on You. Denise loves You and confesses You as Lord in her life.
Defend her from the war that is waging and rescue Denise from her pain and heal her diabetes as well.
Keep her levels where they need to be and also sustain her heart in perfect rhythm. Bring peace, calmness and comfort to Denise. Help her to fix her mind on You and what she needs to obey. Fill her mind and heart with Your power.
Give her strength and energy to do what she must do to get well and maintain herself healthy. We thank You for the way that You have been her Shield and Shelter, her Rock to hold on to...wrap Your loving arms around her causing her to trust in You and how You made her fearfully and wonderfully. May Denise receive only positive ideas to be well and find her identity in You. .....
Greater is He that is in Denise than he that is of this world. Great are You and greatly to be praised! Be exalted in these lives!

Heavenly Father, I just come to thank you for those you have helped and ask you to bless those who still need a healing in their bodies. We don't know what is going on with Denise, but You do and I know without a shadow of doubt that you are taking care of her. You are El Roi the God who sees each request and I just ask that you heal them and love them as I know you are. I pray for my sister-in-law who is to have surgery on August 31st. Give her peace knowing that you will be with her and the doctors and will guide them as they remove the cancer that is in her body. I forgot to put in my prayer request. Please pray for those living in the areas that the hurricane may hit. My #1 daughter and my grandson (#2 daughter's son) live not far from the coast where it is destined to hit. My daughter also felt the tremor from the earthquake yesterday but no harm was done where she is. Praise God.

We ask for Your Protected Refuge to hold away destruction of all kind against the people, animals and land, in Jesus Name of Nazareth. WE Thank You inadvance for Your Mercy and Watch over all. We Thank You for casting down all seeds that would penetrate further this storm from any further manifestations in THE BLOOD. ReplyDeleteFather, I just lift up Joanne to You and ask that you would give her peace and comfort and help her to sleep at night without having to take medication as it sounds like this may be causing her some problems. You have the answer and I know you love all your children so I ask that you help Joanne and her family with whatever the problem is. Thank you for taking care of her and for the good results from the CAT scan.

I agree with the other prayers regarding the hurricane. I thank you for taking care of my daughter and grandson in Virginia Beach. They have had no problems and I know that you were right there with them.
I also pray for our President and our country that people will realize they need to turn back to You. You are our only hope in this world. I truly believe You put a thought in my mind tonight.
I told my husband I felt that if people would really listen to this storm they could hear Your voice saying "Get ready, I am sending my son, Jesus, back very soon." If we look at all the things that are happening it can't be long and I for one amy ready to meet Him in the air. Praise Your holy name.
Father once again I ask you to bless my SIL. She is really scared and needs to feel your loving arms around her. I pray you will give her peace about the surgery on Aug. 31st. I pray all of this in the name of Your son, Jesus.
Heavenly Father, I come to You this morning thanking You for all the good things You have done and the prayers You have answered for people who have been in need and that You will continue to bless those who still need Your healing touch.
ReplyDeleteI ask, in the name of Your Son, Jesus, that you be with my SIL today as her surgery has been changed for today at 1:30. She is so afraid. I just ask that You put Your loving arms around her and may she feel Your peace in the midst of the storm she is going through. I ask that You guide the doctors and give them the knowledge and wisdom they need. I boldy ask that when they go in they will find no cancer because You have removed it. This is not impossible with You, Father. You are my SIL's creator and I'm sure this was not Your plan for her life. It has brought her back to You for which I am thankful. Be with her family who are traveling today to be with her. Guide their talks with her and may she feel Your presence in the name of Jesus.

ReplyDeleteWe come before you tonight with an urgent prayer need for this daughter of Alice's husband's brother. You know the circumstances of this car wreck and why they airlifted her. But we ask that You be with them all. Provide safety and the best immediate care to the family members going to the hospital and to her as she arrives.
You are her Great Physician. Go before her and prepare the medical staff to quickly access and deal with any injuries. You are in charge of her and each of them. We believe that nothing is impossible for You. You know that her little one needs her so quickly attend to all of her medical needs. May she not have anything serious but no matter what we ask that You help in every way to meet whatever she needs to recover. We trust her into Your hands. We ask for a special covering over her, Alice's husband and BILs. Be with their SIL also after her surgery with the not so good report but that she is in Your more than capable hands, that are changing the results even as we pray in Jesus Name. Please bring healing and Your glory over these situations. May Your comfort and peace reign over everyone. May there be a calmness in the midst of this sudden urgent need and all Hope we have in You. We place this burden on You and ask You to carry each one that is now burdened with so much pain, suffering and trials of this earthly life. Save each one and be with them through all of this time. You are God alone! You are the Lord of their lives, and You are mighty to save. Grant this family Your protection and provision of Divine intervention and even miracles in Jesus Name. We give You all the praise, thanks and glory and ask according to Your will, because You love them and want the best for them... Thank You Lord for surrounding them with Your everlasting light to guide each one through this added tragedy. Be exalted in this and in their lives.
