is the NAME of GOD

for this week!

Monday's Questions from the above book:

Studying the Name

  1. "Genesis" is a word that can mean "birth," "history of origin," or "genealogy." What can you observe about who God is from this passage about beginnings? (GENESIS 1)
  2. What can you observe about the world He has made?
  3. What do you think it means to be created in "the image of God"? How would your life change if you lived with the constant awareness that He created you to bear His image?
  4. God seems delighted by what He has made, proclaiming it good and even very good. How does God's assessment of creation shape your own attitude toward the world? Toward yourself?

Remember this is a place for your PRAYERS, so we ask that the comments be PRAYERS or PRAYER REQUESTS ONLY. Though I did not ask Jill's permission, I shared her prayer from today for an example to help us PRAY IN THE NAME OF ELOHIM in the comments: Prayers Lifted to The Throne of God...

If you'd like to respond to the questions, please do so on your own blog, link up with JILL'S... FOREVER N EVER N ALWAYS and be sure to visit her!

Sharing Jill's prayer here to help you know how to Pray in God's Name
ELOHIM

Father God, Elohim, You are our all in all. We are nothing without You. We thank You for creating the heavens and the earth for us to enjoy. We thank You for creating man in Your image. We thank You for creating the oceans that remind us of Your power. We thank You for creating the stars in the sky which remind us of the vastness of Your love – and how You know them all by name. You hold them in place. You alone know every hair on our heads. You alone created us for Your glory. Father, we want to see Your glory be displayed in our lives and draw ever closer to You as we begin to grasp exactly who we are worshipping, praying to and seeking each day. Father, we want to use this time to learn more about You. We want to spend this time worshipping You for who You are. We want to spend this time bringing others with us to see You as God Almighty and the creator of ALL things. Father, Your name is power and beauty.

Elohim, Mighty One, you made everything out of nothing, imposed order on chaos, gave birth to beauty, and called it all good. Help us to know you as the one true God who created everything and everyone, the one who has placed us on the earth for a purpose – to magnify your name. I pray all of this in Your Son’s most blessed name. Amen!

Tuesday's prayer (sorry I forgot to bring them here all week)

Praise You ELOHIM for creating the heavens and the earth out of absolutely nothing. I stand in awe as I gaze upon each detail. Praise You for sharing each creation with us and making humans in Your image.
Forgive me ELOHIM when I have forgotten or not shown that every human life is sacred. For the times, I may have missed life's beauty because I was more preoccupied with the flaws or I did not stop to ponder or appreciate the uniqueness. Forgive me for not appreciating all You have made and given me.

Thank You ELOHIM for creating me and making me in Your image. Renew my sense of wonder ELOHIM and gratitude for ALL YOU have made.
I give You glory ELOHIM as I look at Your creative power intricately woven throughout the universe, the heavens and earth. You have filled the earth with Your glory, it has been fruitful and multiplied.

Weds.,

ELOHIM, You are worthy of all my praise not just for creating the world and everyone in it but because of Your creative power that sustains it. I cannot begin to thank You Elohim for the way You have blessed me with the good things of this earth. Forgive me for any tendency to take Your creation for granted.

Increase my desire to bless others with the gifts that You bless my life with and given me each day.

Thurs.

In the beginning ELOHIM You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. I praise You ELOHIM that You are the same, yesterday, today and forever. Praise You for Your steadfast, unchanging nature, no matter what happens in the world around us and much is happening rapidly.

Forgive me each time that I have limited Your Greatness or tried to see You from my limited perspective, for questioning You or putting You in a box rather than glorifying Your Creative power and majesty.

Thank You Creator for being perfect. Thank You for ALL of Your magnificent creation. Thank You for all You created. Thank You for people made in Your image. Thank You for Your love of art in word, song, dance and works!

Help me(US) to perceive Your greatness more fully. Help me(US) to lean on You more completely for You ELOHIM are stable and strong in all Your ways. Help me (US) to be all You designed me(us) to be fulfilling the purpose that You had when You created me(us).

You are all powerful ELOHIM! You are loving, wise and beautiful.
When I look at creation and people help me remember they are a reflection of all You are; unique and full of potential. Let me not judge our differences. Change me as You will and I give You all the glory, honor and praise ELOHIM through the precious Name of Jesus, I pray...

Elohim, my heart has been deeply touched this week as I focused on you as Creator.

I thank You God for showing me the depth of Your love for me through all that You have created. I thank You that You are unchanging and all of Your promises are true and endure forever! I thank You Elohim for creating so much beauty for us to enjoy and how it speaks of Your name. I thank You for wanting us to see Your beauty in all that You have created – especially man in Your image. I thank You for the reminder that You call it good. That we please You.

I praise You for being such a faithful God who can be counted on no matter the time, place, circumstance or our own understanding of things.
I praise You for being so loving! I praise You that even though I have been so unfaithful in many ways You never stop loving me and have been so patient for me to come this close to You.

I thank You that when I obey You and fully trust You my life is filled with Your peace, rest and joy! Oh God there will never been enough time or hours to thank You enough for the wonders of Your mighty love!

Father, help me to continue to see You in everything and everyone. Help me to never forget who You are as Elohim! I pray that others reading about Your holy names will desire to understand them on a personal level too. That they will seek Your face and know that these promises are for them too.

I pray others will follow me following You and fall deeply in love with The One who created them to be – fearfully and wonderfully made for Your glory! I pray this in Your Son’s most glorious name Jesus. Amen!

PRAYER for Our Nation

This was shared in an email from the Presidential Prayer Team:

Declaration of Independence Signer

Samuel Chase
George Washington (1732-1799), 1st President of the United States

"Almighty God: We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; and Thou wilt incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government; and to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." --

This prayer of George Washington appears in St. Paul's Chapel in New York City.
