PRAY for OUR NATION and OUR LEADERS

This is from the "CALL TO PRAYER" from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) for 40 days that started on September 1st, 2010. Each day, they post giving direction for that day. We shared those in the "Prayers Lifted to the Throne" back here and also more here.
40 days of prayer
Always Pray II Chronicles 7:14

Each Day
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

II Chronicles 7:14

Consider the instructions given to Israel and apply these instructions to your life today.  God directs the people to do certain things. “If” you will do your part, “then” He will do His part.

“If My people, which are called by My name...”

God is speaking, He is addressing His people, those people that are called by His name.  Today, He would be addressing Christians.  God knows the lost man, the sinner, will not obey His commandments or pay attention to God.  But He most assuredly expects Christians to listen to Him, to look into His Word for direction, and to live in accord with His precepts.  John 1:12  “But as many as received Him (Jesus) to them He gave the power to become the sons of God.”

***Pray: "Thank you Father that through Jesus you know my name.  Today, direct me and show me how to live for You."

“...shall humble themselves...”
This is a very hard concept in this culture. Humility.  Jesus said those who are ‘poor in spirit’ will have the kingdom of heaven.  Take note; God does not force Himself on any man or woman.  He desires that you yield to Him and allow Him to take first place in your heart.  The Scripture says:  “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  James 4:6

***Pray: "Lord God, show me those ways that I have become proud.  Help me to turn to You with a humble heart."

“...and pray...”
This is not some thought lightly tossed toward heaven as you drive to work.  God desires that you come before Him and spend time in His presence.  He loves you just like you are, He will not turn you away.  Maybe you have been away for a long time; come Home to Him.  He will welcome you with open arms.  “And you shall seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:13

***Pray: "Hear my prayer Holy Father as I bow my heart to You and seek You."

“...and seek My face...”
So often you want help from God.  You seek His hand.  God wants you to know Him in a personal and intimate way.  He wants you to know His heart.  The Scripture tells you that the nation of Israel saw the acts of God, but Moses knew the ways of God.  It also says the people knew God from afar, but Moses knew Him as a friend.  Jesus speaking to His disciples said; “You are my friends, if you do whatever I have commanded you.”  John 15:14

Pray: "Lord, I come close to You seeking to renew a relationship that seems to have grown cold. I want to spend time with You today."

“...and turn from their wicked ways...”
You may have little habits you know are wrong, or unconfessed sins, or an unforgiving spirit; these things build up over time.  Allow God to look into your heart.  Agree with Him when He puts His finger on a sin.  “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9

***Pray: "Father, I know there is no sin so big that You cannot forgive, and no sin so small that You will overlook. Forgive me and allow me to walk with You in a new way without the burden of sin."

 “...then...”

The next phrases tell you that after you have done those things required by God, He will then do those things that only He can do.  “He will hear from heaven, He will forgive our sins, and He will heal our land.”

***Pray: "Holy Father, I beg you to be patient with me. I look for your forgiveness and healing touch for me, for my family, for my church, for my country."

Their site has many RESOURCES available to help you pray and organize others to PRAY: How Do I Begin?, How do I pray?, What do I pray for?, When should I pray?, How do I lead? ... Each day they have a prayer focus by clicking on Today's Daily Devotion. It changes daily so if you miss a day, you'll miss it.

I will try once again to keep this up to date. But if I do not have it updated, the day you visit, just click on the link and go there to read it.

There is another place that has praying from now until November 2nd, 2010, called "PRAY THE VOTE". Under PRAYER tools, they share:
"We are dedicated to providing new tools to our members to use as a catalyst to dedicated and disciplined prayer for our President, our nation, our leaders and our troops. Our tools are designed to be able to share with others so that our prayers on behalf of our nation multiply across the country."
They lead us in a PRAYER and give PRAYER UPDATES (what is happening). Here is:

Today’s Prayer

Lord, You have told us to guard the truth. Help us to do that as we live faithful lives before You. We ask, Lord, that in the coming elections you would expose dangers that lurk within so that truth might take its rightful place in leading our nation. We thank You for the wonderful ways in which You can do this. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

"Holy Father, I beg you to be patient with me. I look for your forgiveness and healing touch for me, for my family, for my church, for my country."

Father God, Have mercy on each of us when we have not been forgiving first, patient with others, and seeking Your will & Your way above our own or any personal gain. May we all come humbly before You with a spirit that is repentant and ready to change. May we hear Your voice and not the voice of evil.
May we be attentive to what is Your best for each of us! May we seek You and Your wisdom in all decisions.

"Father, I know there is no sin so big that You cannot forgive, and no sin so small that You will overlook. Forgive me and allow me to walk with You in a new way without the burden of sin."

Forgive me for confessed sins and those that are hidden and need Your light to shine on them and bring them out of darkness, so I'm always pure before You. Show me if there be any place in me that needs Your attitude or behavior adjustment. May I always have a contrite heart before You! Search me & know if there is any wicked way & help me to change it. Then help me to stand up for the voiceless victims not able to fight for their rights.

"Lord God, show me those ways that I have become proud. Help me to turn to You with a humble heart."

Humble me in all things. Teach me what it means to walk humbly among the poor of heart and spirit.

"Lord, I come close to You seeking to renew a relationship that seems to have grown cold. I want to spend time with You today."

Thank You for every precious moment that I am able to spend with You and in Your Presence. I want to renew my spirit in You alone. Restore me in any way that needs
a touch from You.

"Hear my prayer Holy Father as I bow my heart to You and seek You."

I bow humbly in adoration! Ohh, how I adore You! I magnify Your Precious Name! You are so worthy!

"Thank you Father that through Jesus You know my name. Today, direct me and show me how to live for You."

Clear away the fog of deceit and unsavory practices for all of us, Lord, that this coming election would be a turning point in America. And we will be sure to give all the glory to You. Amen.

IF MY PEOPLE
Sexual Immorality

Pray: That the conviction of the Holy Spirit would fall on those who are living in immorality, and lead them to repentance, forgiveness, restoration, and a life of purity.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
(1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

PRAYER for Our Nation

This was shared in an email from the Presidential Prayer Team:

Declaration of Independence Signer

Samuel Chase
George Washington (1732-1799), 1st President of the United States

"Almighty God: We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; and Thou wilt incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government; and to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." --

This prayer of George Washington appears in St. Paul's Chapel in New York City.
